Importation of hunting rifles
A temporary import permit from the South African Police service is required to bring your rifle into South Africa. Upon arrival at Port Elizabeth Airport, you will be met by PH, which will accompany you to the permit office where you will pick up your rifle and then travel to the arrival lodge
FIREARM IMPORTATION STEPS:
STEP ONE SAPS 520 Form
- Use BLACK INK to fill out the form
- Sign the form IN FRONT OF an officer of the South African Police Service
STEP TWO CERTIFIED/NOTARIZED COPY OF PASSPORT
- Valid for 6 months after your safari
- This copy will be handed in at the customs office at the airport
STEP THREE ITINERARY/COPY OF RETURN AIRLINE TICKET
STEP FOUR CERTIFIED/NOTARIZED PROOF OF OWNERSHOP OR FIREARM LICENCE
- For US citizens custom declarations form 4457 serve as proof of ownership (Obtained at any USA custom office, and major airports). For all other hunters, an official export permit or letter from local government will be accepted.
- For the US 4457 form, please make sure the date in the top right corner has not expired.
STEP FIVE INVITATION LETTER FROM C.K HUNTING SAFARIS
- We will provide you with this letter as soon as we have all your details
HOW TO FILL IN YOUR SAPS 520 FORM:
In order to bring your rifle into South Africa you will need to fill out a SAPS 520 form. Additional paperwork should be brought along with your filled in SAPS 520 form.
Use BLACK INK to fill out the form and submit the full application of 8 pages.
THE FORM NEEDS TO BE SIGNED IN FRONT OF AN OFFICER OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE SERVICES, SO DO NOT SIGN THE FORM BEFORE ARRIVAL!

Additional paperwork to bring along with your filled out SAPS 520 form:
- Certified/Notarized copy of your passport (valid for 6 months after safari)
- Itinerary or copy of your return airline ticket
- Certified/Notarized Proof of ownership or firearm license. For US citizens custom declarations form 4457 serve as proof of ownership (Obtained at any USA custom office, and major airports). For all other hunters, an official export permit or letter from local government will be accepted.
