Hunting Hartmann's Moutain Zebra up in the mountains.

13 July 2021

On day 3 of our 5-day hunt, we set off to hunt Zebra on a farm about 60 kilometres from our accommodation. As we drove into the farm, I decided to get onto the back of the truck with the tracker and the farm manager. As we made our way to the area where they normally are, we spotted beautiful fallow deer's, Kudu and Red Hartebeest. After about a 3-hour drive on the farm we spotted about 10 Zebras up the mountain. Unfortunately, with no way to get the truck up there, we knew this will be a long hunt as we set off on foot to stalk the herd on the mountain. We discussed the shot and how to get it loaded. With the 338-winmag fitted with a Vortex scope and loaded with 230 grain Winchester ammo we came closer and closer to the Zebra to about a150 meter range. The shooting sticks came out and the crosshair came to rest on the Zebra. The morning silence was broken with the sound of the shot. Our client was extremely happy, and this trophy animal is now in his forever home in the USA.
