The Blesbuck that made us walk 25 km.

After a day of 4 seasons in one day, long hours of walking, we set off on our day to hunt Blesbuck  The only Blesbuck,  a certain type of Blesbuck needed to be hunted.  After arriving on the farm (dairy farm - free roaming) the owner met up with us and asked us to see if we can't get the lone ram as it no use to him as it has broken out to the next-door game reserve a few times and then comes back again. It's been a problem for him as they have lions on the neighbouring farm. After spotting the herd, we stopped and started to stalk, seeing that he was normally in the same area as the herd. After spotting him and checking the wind, as we didn't know which direction it wanted to blow in, we started stalking him in a riven.  The wind suddenly changed direction again and off took the herd. We followed the herd and spotted a beautiful Impala ram. With Impala on the menu, we quickly shifted our attention to take the gap and take what the bush offered us. With the shooting sticks out and the 6.5 Weatherby RPM fitted with a Leopold scope, the crosshair on target, the morning silence was broken by the 140gr Nosler accubond hitting the target. After taking photos, we shifted back to the Blesbuck and we sent the Impala to the skinning shed. We started walking in the direction of the herd to where they moved, in the hope to find him. Yet again after about 10 km, we saw the herd in dense bushes hiding from the wind, but we could not spot the chosen ram. We kept our eyes on the herd for about an hour before we decided to go and have a look in the area that the owner always sees him in the afternoon. We walked back to area where our driver called us on the 2way radio to say they have eyes on him, but with us still being 7-8 km away, we just prayed that he will settle down and start grazing. With the distance getting shorter and shorter we really needed food and refreshments. We met up at the truck and had some awesome boerewors rolls and juice in the field. We set off to where they spotted him from the road. He looked calm. Unfortunately, yet again the wind changed direction, and he picked up his head and ran +-500 meters. He stopped right behind some dense trees, and we could use them as camouflage as we closed the gap between us. From about 50 meters away, our client was about to pull the trigger, he took off again and stopped about 200 yards from us. We moved a bit closer to get a clear shot. With our sticks out and the 140 gr Nosler, we were ready for our target and sent this Blesbuck down in its tracks, sending him on his way to his forever home, Ogeron USA.
