Hunting the old kicked out Copper Blesbuck ram.

15 July 2022
After hunting the Yellow Blesbuck we drove to the skinning shed and shared a few memories of the hunt. I spotted the herd of Copper Blesbuck and I stopped to look at them when our client asked what I'm looking at. I handed her the binnoculours to take a look and I told her it is a Copper Blesbuck. She decided right there, that she needed to shoot this one as she already have the Common Blesbuck, Yellow Blesbuck and White Blesbuck. We dropped off the Yellow Blesbuck at the shed and returned to area where the herd went up the mountain. The tracker told us about a ram that was over his prime and had been kicked out from the herd by a younger ram and that he walks on the east side of the 1000 hectare camp. We spotted him and started to stalk into a shooting distance. When the sable got spooked and took off, running towards the ram, it was in our luck, as the ram stopped and looked at the Sable going pass him. At around 20 meters, we closed the gap between us very quickly. He was making his way down the ridge, we were able to close the gap to the end of the ridge. While he was still searching to get out of the camp, we slowly got the shooting sticks in place and the 270 rested on its safety. We were scared to reload with him so close, as we could scare him off. We waited and soon we started to hear him coming closer. Sudden we had this unbelievable beautiful animal standing infront of us, not even 50 meters. With the safety removed and the crosshair on the shoulder, the silence was broken with the sound of the bullet hitting the perfect shot. With the old Copper Blesbuck in the salt and on his way to his forever home in the U.S.A, we have come to the end of an awesome 5 day safari. Our client who landed in Port Elizabeth as a stranger, left as a very, very good friend.
