The Grey Ghost Of Addo

At the start of 2022 we had some good rain, but still not enough to break the curse of the 8-year long draught we suffered in the Eastern Cape. Some will say the Eastern Cape is green, yes it is indeed green, but that is what we call a green draught. We have a green field, but our underground water table is super low with some boreholes that dried up causing alot of farmers do have their own feed they grow on the farms. I received a phone call from a farmer one day to assist him with a PA (problem animal) that is breaking his fence every night to get to the lucerne. He wanted the Kudu bull down as he can't fix the fence every morning, as it costing him a fortune. I agreed to meet up with him that evening at around 9pm when he told me that the problem animal normally comes in at 1am. We sat down around the camp fire when I heard Jackal calling. As many know, I'm a permitted Jackal hunter as well. After about 5 minutes I told the owner I want to go and shoot the Jackal as well. He then called Jan, the manager, to go with me and we drove off into the dark and all off a sudden the jackal called close to us again. We decided to go into the open area next to road and start calling. I started with tge Jackal Locator and they answered me back on the first call. We moved down the hill and I waited 10 minutes and then started with CK Fight which is a sound I had mixed myself and within 10 minutes both of them the male and female came in at a high speed as there was another Jackal in their territory. They wanted to fight and lucky for me the 243 fitted with the CK Hunting Suppressor was waiting for them to send them to their forever home. Back at the farm house we shared stories of hunting as well as fishing when we realised its already 00:15 and time for me to go and solve the problem in the lucerne camp. I drove in and stopped close to the shed and waited. What felt like ages, I started to hear them jumping against the fence to break in and to graze on the green lucerne. When I scanned with my ATN all I could spot was a few cows that is walking towards me, I scanned the whole area when I spotted the bull about 80 yards to the right of the cows. I reloaded the 100 grain S&B into the chamber and waited for him to lift his head so I can send him to his forever home and solve the problem. As soon as he lifted his head, after about 3 minutes because the dogs started to bark, I sent the bullet right down range to the target and he dropped in his track. This bull is till to this day, the biggest full body kudu I have ever shot as he weighs in at a whopping 386lbs in just body weight.
