Hunting the ultimate Mountain Rhebuck

On the 10th of July we picked up our client at the airport and set off on our 4 hour journey by bakkie to the main camp in the North. This camp served as our home base, from where we set out to hunt on our diverse concessions. On the 11th of July the Mountain Rhebuck was the first animal on the card. We woke up at 5 am to freezing temperatures of -8 degree celsius and frost of 1cm thick. While drinking coffee and planning our hunt for the day, we were cozy and warm infront of the fireplace. We decided to leave for our first destination, Aberdeen, where we had our mountain concession. On arrival the farm manager informed us about a sought after Rhebuck ram, with a broken horn tip, that has outsmarted 9 other hunters before. The last hunter, being outsmarted just 3 weeks prior. We set off looking for the Rhebuck, aswell as some baboons. After 3 hours of scouting, our hopes started to fade.
We spotted a nice looking Kudu bull and then some movement caught my eye about 400 meters off. Low and behold, there stood the ram! Unbeknown to the animal, we prepared ourselves for the hunt. We started stalking closer and closer until about 250 meters from the buck. The stalk felt like hours, softly treading with our breaths hitched, we took our stand in the shade of a tree. While stalking the buck, I saw a big Black-back Jackel coming towards us. We kept still and held on to hope that the Rhebuck will show himself. Within a split of a second the Jackal took a turn down the hill, and boy, were we in for a show! The Rhebuck ram came out from behind a tree, ever so chilled, scratching himself for a good couple of minutes. With this scene unfolding in front of us, we chambered a 100 grain S&B into the .243 Remington, fitted with a C.K Hunting Safaris suppressor. We waited for him to give us a full side-on shot. After a while an ewe came out and started grazing away from us. We had no other choice than to go for the quartering away shot. With the cross hair just a bit more to the back, the bullet was sent on it's way. It hit the perfect spot, sending this old warrior to his forever home in the U.S.A.!
Well done to our client on an awesome hunt.
We can't wait to host you again in 2026.
